Strength steel grade is according to СТО АСЧМ 7-93 and GOST R 52544 2006 and is used for reinforcement of concrete structures. The periodic section of the steel grade A500C has at least two rows of transverse edges, which are crescent-shaped, and are not connected to longitudinal edges. This is hot rolled without further processing or heat-treated in the rolling stream.

This standard applies to rods of a periodic section intended for the reinforcement of concrete structures and rods of non-stressed rebar of prestressed RC structures. The bars of the reinforcing steel according to the СТО АСЧМ 7-93 can be:

- гhot rolled without further processing
- thermo-mechanically strengthened in the rolling flow
- mechanically hardened in cold condition

The rebar, depending on the mechanical properties, is made of following strength grades: A400C, A500S, A600C.

Rebar A500S GOST R 52544 2006 is manufactured with a nominal diameter:

- up to 6 mm - in coils
- from 6 to 12 mm - in coils or rods
- from 14 mm and above - in bars.

Bars of measured length - in the range of 6 to 12 m, unmeasured - 6 - 12 m. In a batch of bars of unmeasured length, bars of from 3 to 6 m are allowed in the amount of 7% of the mass of the batch.

The nominal diameters, a500 range of rebar, the cross-sectional area, the mass of a meter of rolled metal are approximately the same as in the standard СТО АСЧМ 7-93.

This standard applies to the welded reinforcement bar of a periodic section of steel grades A500C and B500C, which is intended for the reinforcement of concrete structures. The periodic section of such rolled products should have at least two rows of transverse ribs having a crescent shape and not connecting with longitudinal ribs.

According to the production method, reinforcing bar has following types of steel grades:

- A500C - hot-rolled without further processing or heat-treated in the rolling stream
- В500С - mechanically strengthened in a cold state (cold-deformed) The letter "C" means "welded."

The advantages of rebar steel grade B500C before steel grade A3 are:

- high plasticity,
- eliminates the possibility of destruction of the welded joint,
- maximum yield strength and design resistance, which allow 20% savings in steel,
- low production costs.

Until recently, in Russia, rebar of a periodic section of steel grade A400 (A-III) is mainly used, in particular steel grades 35ГС and 25Г2С, which are restrictedly welded. For steel 35ГС, arc welding of Rebar crosswise is forbidden, but unfortunately, it is still used everywhere, Арматура А500Сwhich often leads to serious accidents of reinforced concrete structures. In the construction of buildings made of monolithic reinforced concrete using the 35ГС steel grade, contact arc and other welds do not give good ductility, such compounds do not withstand bending. It is necessary to completely abandon welding and take significant reserves in the cross section of the rebar, because there is a danger of welding arc tacks of the rebar, and control over the reinforcement works and the quality of the rebar is difficult to ensure.

The Russian Standardization Association, together with the Gosstroy of Russia, developed a new standard СТО АСЧМ 7-93, prescribing mechanical properties, chemical composition and other requirements for structural rebar A500C. In accordance with these requirements, A500C Rebars are produced thermo-mechanically hardened, hot-rolled with microalloying, or cold-deformed. In reinforcement steel of steel grade A500C, the longitudinal ribs on the rods are not necessary, and the transverse protrusions (ribs) are crescent-shaped. The transverse protrusions should not be connected with the longitudinal.

The chemical composition of A500C steel grade rebars contains less doping substances, which simplifies production and reduces the cost of products without a significant reduction in performance properties. Requirements for structural rebar GOST 5781 82 are more stringent compared with the standard СТО АСЧМ 7-93.

By analyzing specific objects of monolithic construction, when replacing the A400 steel grade with the A500C steel grade, the reinforcement of the walls and floors of the bearing reinforced concrete frame of the building is reduced compared to the original design solution. Jointing of Rebars of different diameters: the use of the A500C ensured a reduction in the diameter of the rebar used, the simplification of the butt joining of the rods, and the effective use of the arc welding for the docking of the rods. As a result, the consumption of rebar decreases by 20–25% without increasing the cost of it, the quality of concreting improves due to a decrease in the saturation of the cross section of the rebar columns. On average, the use of steel grade A500C instead of steel grade A400 saves about 10% of the working reinforcement.
