Hexagonal bar
A hexagon is a metal-roll, forming a regular hexagon in cross section. The round bar inscribed in a hexagon determines its size (diameter of the inscribed round bar, d) - from 8 to 100 mm according to GOST 2879-88 and from 3 to 100 mm according to GOST 8560-78.
This rolling is made by forging, hot rolling, and sizing. By the way of processing hexagons are divided into following types:
- for hot forming
- for cold drawing
- for cold machining.
According to the destination hexagons share:
- depending on steel grade
- вdepending on the mass fraction of chromium, nickel, copper
Hexagons also have following steel grades:
- by chemical composition (high quality and high quality)
- on quality and surface finish (hot rolled, forged; calibrated)
- according to the state of the metal (without heat treatment, heat treated, hardened)
Steel hexagon is produced from carbon, alloyed, high-alloyed and tool steels. Basically, the hexagon is made from high quality alloyed and carbon steels. The special properties of the hexagon with such steels give various additives, such as chromium, nickel, manganese. Stainless steel is used for corrosion resistant hexagon with an additive such as chrome - stainless steel hex . To obtain a temperature-resistant hexagon, heat-resistant, complex-alloyed steels are used, to which nickel, chromium, silicon, and aluminum are added.
Hexagon is made steel grades: St3sp, St3ps according to GOST 380-2005; 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 45, 08kp, 08, etc. according to GOST 1050-88; steel 20X, 30X, 40X, 30HGSA, etc. according to GOST 4543-71.

Hexagon is used in mechanical engineering and automotive industry: for the manufacture of machine parts, for the production of fasteners (nuts, bolts, studs, racks) on lathes and machines. Hex also found application in construction: it is used as an element of the framework of structures, bearing and decorative element of railings and fences, in the manufacture of viewing platforms, stairs and balconies.
In Russia, the hexagon manufactures: OAO Metallurgical Plant named after AK Serov, OAO West-Siberian Metallurgical Plant (ZSMK), OAO MMK-METIZ, OOO UGMK-Stal, OAO OEMK.
Hot-rolled steel hexagon GOST 2879-88
This standard applies to carbon, alloyed and high-alloyed hot-rolled steel of hexagonal cross-section, with a diameter of inscribed round bar from 8 mm to 100 mm.
On accuracy of rolling the hexagon is made:
- B - high accuracy
- In - usual accuracy
Hexagon length is made in rods: measured, multiple and unmeasured length, usually from 2 to 6 m. As agreed with the consumer, it is possible to manufacture in coils and from 1.5 m to 12 m long.
Use hot-rolled steel hexagon for the manufacture of fasteners in mechanical engineering for the manufacture of various mechanisms and tools.

The standard applies to calibrated steel hexagonal section, the diameter of the inscribed round from 3 to 100 mm and a length of 2 - 6 m.
Apply a calibrated hexagon in those industries where a high degree of accuracy is required to the dimensions of the workpiece and to the quality of the surface roughness. A calibrated hexagon is used to make fasteners, bolts, nuts; in engineering hydraulics, for the manufacture of the reinforcement of the connection of the hydraulic pipelines (pipe branching, nuts, fittings).
The main advantage of a calibrated profile is that there is no need for additional surface treatment. Usually carbon steel is used for its manufacture, alloy steel is used for especially strong parts. For threaded connectionspipelines used hexagon as a billet of structural steel St45 or 40X, for welded connections - of steel 35 or 20.
Calibrated hexagonal rolled products are produced by cold drawing conventional hot rolled steel.

The standard applies to hot-rolled and calibrated hexagonal rods of tool unalloyed (carbon) steel. On the assortment the bar corresponds to GOST 2879 and GOST 8560.
Rods are subdivided:
- to destination depending on the steel grade
- by appointment, depending on the mass fraction of chromium, nickel, copper into groups: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
- by chemical composition for high-quality and high-quality (A)
- according to the method of further processing into subgroups a (for hot working by pressure) and subgroup b (for cold machining)
- on quality and surface finish into groups:
a) hot rolled and forged:
- 2 GP - for subgroup a
- 3GP - for subgroup b
b) calibrated: B and C
- as metal: without heat treatment, thermally treated, non-charted NG (calibrated)
Used hexagon of tool steel:
- U7, U7A - for processing wood, for fitting and assembly tools (hammers, sledge hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.), forging shumps, needle wire, pneumatic tools of small sizes (crimps, chisels), etc.
- У8, У8А, У8Г, У8ГА, У9, У9А - for the manufacture of tools, working in conditions that do not cause heating of the cutting edge; for processing wood (axes, zenovok, tsekovok, chisels, etc.); for rolling rollers, plates and rods for the injection molding of tin-lead alloys; for calibers of the simple form and the lowered grades of accuracy, etc.

Hexagonal rolling of quality structural carbon and alloy steel for cold extrusion and heading GOST 10702-78
According to GOST 10702, rolled hexagon is calibrated for the manufacture of products by cold extrusion and heading and hot-rolled hexagonal bars for the manufacture of calibrated and rolled and wire with a special surface finish.
Rolled stock in accordance with GOST 10702 has following types:
- by the method of production - hot-rolled
- as the material:
a) thermally processed MOT
b) thermally treated vehicle
hardened (calibrated) N
d) without heat treatment
- by the magnitude of the deformation during cold draft into groups:
a) 50, 66, 66Т, 66И, 75, 75И
- by surface quality (hot-rolled steel) into groups: 1 and 2
Types of the flat rolled stock are as follows:
- hot rolled: sizes from 8 to 42 mm in coils and rods, more than 42 mm in size - in rods
- calibrated: size from 7 to 40 mm - in coils and rods
- cold-drawn: less than 7 mm in size - in coils.
